Innocence: Ning Kam and Het Kamerorkest Brugge
Venue:Miryzaal, Conservatorium Gent
David Diamond’s defiantly joyous Rounds for string orchestra was commissioned by Dimitri Mitropoulos toward the end of the Second World War. “Make me happy!” was the command from Mitropoulos, words that birthed one of Diamond’s most popular works. Following in the theme of Innocence is Edward Elgar’s moving Serenade for strings in E minor , reportedly the first of his compositions with which he professed himself satisfied. This programme also includes a commission from young Belgian composer, Erik Desimpalaere and also features one of Belgium’s rising stars, pianist Julien Libeer who returns to collaborate with Het Kamerorkest Brugge in Mozart’s Piano Concerto in G, KV 453.
